What are the Pillars of the West?
Not nostalgia. Not ideology. Inheritance.
Not nostalgia. Not ideology. Inheritance.
Thesis
The West was not built by accident. It was formed by Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, and Christendom.
Pillars of the West exists to recover the foundations of Western civilization: faith, reason, law, virtue, beauty, learning, and memory.
The West was not built by accident. It was formed by Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, and Christendom: by prophets and philosophers, apostles and jurists, monks and poets, martyrs and statesmen, cathedrals and classrooms.
To inherit the West is not merely to admire the past. It is to receive what is true, repent of what is false, preserve what is noble, and hand it on.
“The West needs memory because gratitude and repentance both require truth.”
This project should be Catholic-friendly without becoming narrow, civilizational without becoming merely political, and serious without becoming academic in the bad sense. It should teach, clarify, recover, and invite.
